Miller pickup in need of repair

I have a Miller ST51 type that is playing up. The volume knob just makes a crunchy noise with no noise coming from the pickup. In other words, it's broken. Do you (anyone) think I can just take this to any decent repair person or would a specialist have to look at it? Any suggestions welcome. I'm in the UK

I guess the FB thread got you sorted on the repair, but my only second thoughts were about the possibility of the lead from the PU having a short. Its possible although this model has good stress relief.
Miller is a German company ? At worst its a coil short in the pickup. Which happens now and again.Ship it to them if you need a rewind.
If your repair person tests the leads out from the PU and gets an appropriate ohm reading it should be an easy repair. If the multi meter indicates a short in the coil, then your in for a more difficult coil/bobbin rewind. Not as easy but possible for a pickup specialist .

Thanks Al for your detailed reply. I'm going to find a good repair person here in London first and see what they have to say. If it needs specialist attention I will send it back to Miller.
