Which of the Hendriksen amps is best for jazz? I am using a ES 175. Looking for that warm joe pass/Jimmy Bruno tone. The 110 or the 112 combo.need a smaller amp for.air travel
Thanks
I have a 175 and an older, pre-reverb 110 Henricksen. Good amp, with enough power for small/medium club gigs. It's not great if you have to use it to fill a larger space (can sound a bit too "small"), but in that situation, it works well put through a PA. I bought it because it was more portable than the old 15" Polytone Mini-Brute IV I have. Very similar sound, only the Polytone can handle the bigger rooms well. I have taken it to lots of gigs on trams, trains and busses without too much discomfort. I've also flown with it a bit, with no problems - it's pretty light.
Here's an old video of me playing the 175 through the Henricksen 110. Recorded with an ok mic, so the sound is, I would say, a fairly accurate representation.
As I said above, you should be fine in small to medium rooms, just in larger spaces it doesn't push quite enough air. Trio and quartet gigs with drums I've never had a problem.
hi Jon, just ordered one.may I ask what settings are you using on the amp.
thanks again,jeff
That I couldn't tell you, although usually everything is just set flat at 12 o'clock for the 175. The EQ is really helpful on that amp, but I rarely need to use it.
