any reviews or opinions. Especially when paired with an AER amp?

The AER seems to be a USP , an under saddle pickup. Most traditional GJ guitars do not have a saddle . Which makes the AER a bit of a project as you would need to rout a saddle slot into a traditional Selmer type bridge and then , make a suitable saddle. In short its not designed for use with a GJ guitar though it could be made to work. :| So perhaps not the most practical choice for that application.

I just kind of assumed all the pickup systems at the store would be able to be installed on Selmer style guitars. Is that not the case?

    Ask the retailer.
It would seem to be a UST.

No, not everything in the store is for use with a Selmer Maccaferri guitar. The AER pickup is not well suited for use with a Gypsy guitar and for that reason we have never installed one.

    Thanks,
