I’m pleased to announce that Ewan MacKenzie will be doing a guitar workshop in Sydney.

Here is the Format for the day
Learn the elements of the exciting guitar style pioneered by French Manouche Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and played by contemporary greats like Bireli Lagrene, Tchavolo Schmitt, Stochelo Rosenberg and others.
The workshop will be conducted by Ewan MacKenzie, acclaimed Australian Jazz Manouche guitarist and artistic director of the annual Ozmanouche Festival.
9.30-10 am arrive
10.00 am - 11am - short history of Django - how style evolved - basics.
11 - 11.10 am coffee break.
11.10 am - 12.30 pm elements and essentials of gypsy jazz rhythm guitar - la pompe - the right hand - waltz, bolero, bossa - the art of accompaniment - embellishments by lead guitar when not soloing.
12.30 - 1pm lunch. – Not provided.
1 - 2.30 pm soloing - scales, arpeggios, modes; the use of diminished arpeggios; right hand technique; dissect a few Django solos; some of Django's stylistic devices.
2.30-2.45 pm - break.
2.45 - 4.00pm the rest of it - practice regimes - best use of practice time; building a repertoire; throwing away the charts; more on soloing - the spirit of the music.
