Well yes, you will be getting nowhere fast, you're right about that.
Continuance, focus and patience will get you there eventually though.
Search around the forum for threads discussing practice, there is enough of it to fill out a book.
Hi Stuart i was at the Robert Gillow last week watching some Gypsy jazz a couple
of Violin players clarinet i really enjoyed it i take it you was one of the players?
i was going to try and have a chat when the jam was finished but i was with the fiancee and
had to leave about 10.30pm married life is going to be great lol.
i would love to join in the session but id need horse tranquilizers for my nerves
i have played with bands years ago singing and rhythm but as far as lead playing go's i played a bit of blues pentatonic bedroom stuff. i have been a fan of Gypsy jazz for a long time i seen Garry Potter and Ian Cruikshank play in Blackpool many years ago after watching a TV documentary about the French Manouche players. my brother had Remi Harris playing at his wedding 5 weeks ago awesome stuff. iv been and seen Angelo Debarre play i walked out in a trance lol.
i have been looking at guitars on line were i live at stoke Gypsy Jazz is extinct so no guitars in the music shops, i wasn't sure about a Richwood or an Ozark so im going to check them out and Cigano looks great i was going to get one after Xmas if iv got anything left but Richwood or an Ozark may come a lot sooner, i thought with them being cheep they would play and sound like a cheese grate.
my fiancee lives at Morecambe so i'm only over at weekends due to work, i know you play 1st Sunday of every month at the Gillow i will be there next time. i have already liked your group on facebook, you played Django's Tiger for me last time i was at the Gillow so i will have another request ready. a good friend of mine Heath Lavery played there the other week we was in a folk band together at Blackpool i only just found out he was playing with a Gypsy Jazz band. is Promenade Music at Lancaster i will check it out?
thanks for the Advise, Lee

-compose your own etude for a song with a mix of arpeggios and phrases
-when practicing soloing over a tune set your tempo to half of your performance speed goal, follow the chord changes in your head, play only one or two notes per bar or whatever you're comfortable with in order to keep your mind stay on chord changes
-come up with a lick and play it in 4 different common keys
-take the lick above and adopt it to every chord change of the song you're practicing
-play the same lick in 4 different positions on the neck
There's many, many more great advices in those threads and many others, this is just something I've been trying to focus on lately.
