Changing the bridge on my guitar damped some overtones too.
I wasn't trying to get the drier sound, just wanted a bridge with higher action but the change is very audible.
Of all tricks I tried before, out of curiosity, to see if I can soak up some reverb this is the only thing where I could hear a clear change.
