An addendum: Today's mail brought the new (January 2014) Acoustic Guitar magazine with a piece on airline travel by Alex De Grassi, followed by a quick rundown on the sturdier end of the case market.
Update for this thread. I've been traveling a lot by air lately so figured I would try out the Voyage Air Guitar voyageairguitar.com/. It's no GJ guitar, but it's still pretty cool! Definately sounds like a flattop but the sound is good and there's enough tension to play with GJ technique on the road. Super light, super easy setup, and no bigger than a large backpack. I fly out again next week and will give update about how it goes with the airlines. Maybe someday Dupont will work with this guy to create a hinged Nomade.
