Minor brag

I can't resist it. My Nephew has just been awarded the Carl Sagan Fellowship. A three year post doctoral study in exoplanetary science. He has also discovered a new planet recently.

We are all very proud of his achievements.

congrats to your nephew from a huge Carl Sagan fan!
Paul Cezanne: "I could paint for a thousand years without stopping and I would still feel as though I knew nothing."

Edgar Degas: "Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.... To draw, you must close your eyes and sing."

Georges Braque: "In art there is only one thing that counts: the bit that can’t be explained."

    Utter, utter respect. Brilliant news!

Now all we have to do is come up with a head and some chords: "Minor Brag" is too good a song title to pass up on :)

Congrats to the brainy nephew, Jay. There is so much possible in space exploration now with the improvements in optics, power generation & storage, miniaturized logic, and temperature resistant materials. This is the very time we should be getting excited about space exploration. It's good to know that bright young people see that.
You get one chance to enjoy this day, but if you're doing it right, that's enough.
  • Below is an excerpt from an email from my nephew Kevin Stevenson about the planet he found.

Thanks, Jay. That's really cool! The name of the candidate planet is UCF-1.01 and it orbits the nearby red dwarf star GJ 436. NASA even made a YouTube video taking a virtual voyage from Earth to the planet. You can check it our here:
