Gypsy guitar pickup/amplification

what would you guys suggest in terms of the best sounding gypsy guitar pickup? I'm going back and forth between a gypsy guitar and a Gibson L-7. I think the L-7 will be more diverse stylistically, but I'm really drawn to the gypsy guitar sound that archtops can't get. I'm playing through a vintage princeton reverb amp.

Thanks for the links. I went through and it seems like all the choices are pretty subjective, which makes sense. I listened to Stochelo play with his pickup and it sounded pretty shrill and quacky to me. I guess if I end up with a gypsy guitar I'll go the Bireli route -- mic clip to the soundhole. Sounds the best to me.

If you want to have a more or less neutral amplification of your acoustic sound, then indeed a mic is the best way. However, even the best mic won't sound good over your Princeton. You would have to look for an amp with a more fullrange speaker(s).

Does anybody know what Gonzalo uses? I've seen him a couple of times and whatever he uses is excellent. It appears to be an in the sound hole mic.

Thanks for the info, Michael. When I start thinking about gigs, I'll pick one up. That seems like a good price. I've also got my eyes on the 2013 Castelluccia Tears, but can't afford it right now. I love the sound and it looks incredible.

@jonpowl yes, the Catelluccia Tears is a beautiful guitar! I'm so greatful that Jean Baptiste is making these amazing instruments in France at such reasonable prices. Although, he just raised his prices so the next batch will be more expensive.
