Fingers hitting the top

hammyhammy
Hello everybody, while practicing picking technique, as the pick is coming down and pushing through the strings my other fingers hit the top make a sound, sometimes a click and sometimes a quite loud thump. My wrist is bent and my fingers aren't planted on the top, so on the upstroke they leave the top and then hit it again on the downstroke. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong?

Most players actually keep their fingers lightly touching the top. When you do big downstrokes they are already making contact. Try experimenting with that position and you may find it keeps your fingers from making audible contact with the top.
