Hi Everyone,

Badges

The forum now has a badge system in place. Badges are achievements in the context of our forum and give you a boost of points when earned. They are awarded for various things: length of service, social connections, receiving reactions, sharing your knowledge of music, uploading media, etc. You will receive them as you go about your normal forum participation when you reach certain milestones. If you want to see exactly what badges exist, check out the full list over on the badges page at: http://www.djangobooks.com/forum/badges.

Ranks

As you participate in the forum, you will be awarded points for your contributions (i.e. posting comments, receiving reactions, earning badges, etc.) Ranks are automatically assigned based on the number of points you've earned. There are seven ranks:

New
Level 1 - ✭
Level 2 - ✭✭
Level 3 - ✭✭✭
Level 4 - ✭✭✭✭
Prodigy
Virtuoso
Deity

Your rank will be displayed next to your name when you post comments.

Reactions

You can react to other member's comments by clicking the the three reactions below each post: Like, Funny, and Insightful. Clicking on them records how you feel about a specific post. We keep track of all these reactions and award points to content with positive reactions. If you want to remove your reaction for whatever reason, just click it to remove it.

@Lango-Dango Not to rain on your parade, but you are actually at level 2 (see the the "✭✭" next to your name.)

I think you're looking at the red boxes which indicate the number of notifications or inbox messages you have.

    :peace:

I should also mention that since I just implemented the badge system, your account won't be updated with your current rank and badges until you login and perform some function like posting or reacting. At that point, the system will analyze your profile and award the corresponding badges and rank.

Since many people have been on the forum for almost 10 years  , you will get a load of notifications when this happens. But don't worry, this torrent of messages will only happen once. From then on, you'll just occasionally get a notification when you receive a new badge or rank.

Well, okay, Michael, I am willing to accept a certain amount of rain on my parade since I am told by my conservative friends that "trickle down economics" is going to really work for me if I just wait a LITTLE longer...

So evidently my comments now say "Prodigy" next to them...Is there a way to turn this off, or at least reposition it? The way it's designed, it makes it look like I wrote that myself, which would be quite cocky ("Chicago Prodigy").

@adrian well, you are a prodigy! But a modest one, and I hadn't taken into account that a rank title would actually be perceived as cocky. I will demote you to level 4. :D

Indeed Adrian you are a prodigy, and indeed a modest one to boot.

One of my treasured memories of last DiJ was to join you and another singer in spontaneously harmonizing a golden oldie from the sixties, "Because I Love You" by the Dave Clark Five. Fun, wow!

(Come to think of it, you were probably not even born when that tune was a hit, which makes it even more impressive that you could sing and play it!)
