Very helpful charts! Thanks! So the soft edges will be similar to the C or Oval 60's, but with more inward sloping? Like the soft V 50's edge but with a C-shape?
My Gallatos look like the first one called "U" or "D" 50s but with a flat-ish transition on the back side of the neck (imagine a flat portion on the bottom of the cross-section shown above) that is to say it is very 'boxy'. I really don't like this shape and would prefer something like the C shown above with a slight 'return' that Craig mentions.
I gave the go-ahead to start construction on my guitar The final specs I chose for the neck is 45mm width at nut and 57mm at the 12th fret, with soft edges and a soft-V profile Thanks for the input! Now I wait 3-4 weeks...
Not fast enough Bones... lol. AFAIK, mine will be the only guitar he will be working on, hence the rather quick turnaround. Will make sure to take pictures and maybe a short vid so you guys can judge the sound. I've never held, seen, nor heard any gypsy guitar in person ever, so I don't know how it's supposed to sound like in real life
just an update... my guitar is done! haven't received it yet though, but the luthier sent pics. it's a Selmer copy but I had the neck made with a V profile, and the fret markers the same as my own guitar so I won't get 'lost.'
will be arriving on Monday, so it's going to be a long weekend for me!
Will do. One sleepless night to go Will try to post a short recording or video so you guys can assess. It'll be the first Selmer-type guitar I'll be handling so I won't know what to expect sound-wise
