For those in or close to the Northwest, Wintergrass is happening later this week. While not strictly or even mostly a GJ event, there are some things of interest this year. There will be a GJ Jam on Friday at 5:30, and a Jazz Manouche violin workshop on Saturday at11:15

Thanks, I've been wondering how much GJ has been sneaking into the bluegrass scene? Those festivals are pretty cool and there is a LOT of jamming. GJ is essentially "flatpicking" in a way, without the up and down strokes and capos. Some of those guys play some nice swing stuff on their flatops, fiddles, mandolins, etc. Might make it back up to the Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contes this year (May 18). It's a lot closer and takes place in a very picturesque setting (the old Paramount Movie Ranch). It's a lot of fun, but can get crowded and a little chaotic. A multitude of pickers in all shapes and sizes.
