Schnuckenack Reinhardt is 85 now and decided to finish his career. Sad but true. If you want to take the chance and see him live you have to hurry.

Schnuckenack will give his farewell concert on 1rst of April in Bensheim (Germany) Parktheater (20:00) during the XVI. International Summer Festival.

In the first part of the concert he will introduce his successor: his brother-in-law Schmitto Kling (formerly Hot Club the Zigan). Schmitto will join in and continue the ensemble with Schnuckenacks sons Forello and Ricardo, with Helmut Weiss (piano) and Jani Lehmann (Bass).

In the second part he will play together with the duo Irith Gabriely & Peter Prystaniak with wich he had the latest great success in the last few years: Klezmer meets Zigan.

I hope that someone will record this evening

And best wishes and thank you, Schnuckenack!!

Best,
Barengero

crap crap crap! I can;t afford to fly over, so I guess I'll never see him play live :( On a related note, if any of you haven't seen Mondine play at La Chope, I would advise you to get on a plane and do it soon - he won't be there forever.

I wish I'd been able to catch him somewhere; those MDZ albums completely changed my take on this music. I wonder: does anyone have any information on the documentary made a year or two ago?

    Best,
    Jack.

    Hi Jack,

this has been a documentary for the german TV. When Schnuckenack had his 80th birthday he made a journey with his sons Ricardo and Forello to the places of his youth and especially of his expulsion during the Nazi era. He wanted to show all this to his sons. In the Schnuckenack-Bio that Stoche wrote for the Django-Station

you can find more informations about his life.

The film shows in a second part also Schnuckenack visiting france and jamming there with Romane, Florin Nicolescu and others. Of course there are some interviews, too (with his manager Siegfried Maeker, for example).

    Barengero,

I'm wondering though if it was ever released commercially...a lot of television documentaries in the US are available for public purchase. Any word?

    Thanks,
    Jack.
