I was really taken by the Hahl Gitano De Luxe Antique. The archtop quality -- strong bass, seems rare to gypsy guitars. not so taken by the price. Are there any other gypsy guitars like this for a working musicians price range?
@Macky Unfortunaltey there isn't really anyone else building guitars similar to Hahl's designs. He's unique in his success at building a truly modern Gypsy guitar that skillfully balances the smoothness of an archtop with the volume and punch of a Selmer.
Hi Macky. I have a Shelley D Park Full Maple Montmartre from 2010. Had it set up again last year after some heavy use by some gypsy friends and the guitar changed completely. Opened up into something else. Awesome. It sounds like an amplified archtop in every room I play it, even outdoors! The build quality and modern feel of the neck make it the best I have ever played. Rich, soft highs and lows, lots of bass. In fact Dave Emerald a gypsy friend has recorded is new album with it almost totally. He uses no filters and it sounds awesome. I'd rate it against Hahl any day of the week. It might just be one of those 1 in a thousand touched by angels, but Shelley deserves much more recognition for her guitars. They sing.

La Fee is probably the closest: http://www.djangobooks.com/Item/la-fee-grande-bouche-2
Also, Dupont's DM50 guitars have a similar hybrid archtop/gypsy sound and feel.
Thanks...
