Selmer type make great "old timey" guitars.
Some of the more modern builds would go to blue grass land pretty easily.
Being heard is a nice plus.
Loud is good.
I've used D'Addario EJ83M on my solid wood Garrison Guitar and they sounded lovely. Soft and different. I guess it depends on what sound you are looking for..... If you want to have a bit of a thrash around then NO. If you want something soft and round then YES.
