This "Connie" was later modificated (maybe 1948 or 1949) by a change of motors (between 51 and 46 motor types) and some cabin amenagement was also changed (between 26 and 46 cabin types).
He also changed his name on this occasion from Paul Jones to Portugal. We can have a look to this plane here:
Django's visa clearly indicates that he arrived on flight NC88856 thus "Paul Jones" and not on a "Yankee Clipper" as indicated by Michael Dregni in his excellent book on Django
Yes I think the "Yankee Clipper" aircraft was a flying boat but according to the article in the 30th October, New York Times, the plane Django arrived on was a "Pan American Clipper" which, as you say, was Lockheed Constellation.
I do understand Django's fear seeing such a fragile but beautiful plane!
In fact a Hillman's Airways De Havilland "Dragon Rapide" crash occurred on October, 2nd 1934 into the English Channel 4 miles off Folkestone, Kent, killing all seven people on board...
Fortunately Django's flight was on April, 11th 1934
