”French Connection” is a collaboration between the Swedish guitarist Gustav Lundgren and a few of his French musician friends. Violinists Eva Slongo (originally from Switzerland) and Aurélien Trigo were friends he made during his many tours in Paris. This also aplies to the amazing guitar players Michael Gimenez, Edouard Pennes & Rémi Oswald, whom together with Eva & Aurélien, are some of the most important and well-known musicians on the Gypsy Jazz scene in Paris today. Gustav met the French/Spanish singer Cecilia Krull while living in Madrid from 2012-2013. Cecilia also toured Algeria in 2014 with the Gustav Lundgren Trio. The rhythm section on this album consists of double bass player Andreas Unge & guitarist Martin Widlund, both from the Gustav Lundgren Trio, as well as Gustav´s brother Hampus Lundgren on a few tracks. Hampus was the double bass player for Hot Club de Suede between 2001-2008.
This is a CD of modern Gypsy Swing music! The Gypsy Swing or Jazz Manouche style was originally created by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt in the thirties. This genre of music has since developed into many different sub-genres and some of the best and most important players are still the gypsies living in France and Holland. A lot of these players have started to perform more contemporary jazz compositions with this typical ”string swing” lineup. On this album you´ll also find more modern compositions from Miles Davis & Gustav Lundgren together with more classic stuff like Honeysuckle Rose by Fats Waller and Django Reinhardt´s Swing 48.
Enjoy!
