Al: thanks for the good advice. Can you provide a bit more detail regarding your warning: "don't over shim your bridge." What would generally constitute an acceptable level of shim use, and what would be too much?
Not sure how much is too much, but on Sel/Mac style guitars I believe the tops are so thin (as compared to a traditional flattop) that too much shim can cause excessive downward pressure and could result in a cracked top.
But Bob and Al would better be able to answer you on this than I.
Its more about sound and stability.
I would not suggest shimming more than 3/64ths of an inch.
I prefer no shims at all if possible.
Shims are OK if they fit well.
But you see guys shimming with anything , picks , match books.
