I've been using Gypsy picking for a few months now and i've taken to it very quickly and easily. The question i'd like to ask is, when playing arpeggios with 1 note per string instead of the doubled highest note, what is the gypsy way? All swept strokes? Or an upstroke on the highest string. I don't mind playing it either way, just clarification on what exactly they do....

Yea, i'm thinking about those in particular.
  • Conceptually speaking, downstrokes are a stronger attack. Usually on a downbeat. So if I were going up the strings and was ending up on some note on the 1st string that was on the and of the beat going to a downstroke on the same string I would probably play that as an upstroke even if changing strings.

    Really? I am confused.
Could you develop that or show us an example?
Isn't upstroke while changing string blasphemy? ;)

  • Probably is but I am content with my picking style now......to take it up to the next level would require taking too much time away from sax, which is my natural voice for soloing now.
