The Headway EDB-1 is roughly the same size and weight as a Baggs Para DI but is like a Baggs on steroids. It features two input channels (one of which can be 1/4" or XLR) with individually adjustable gains. This is especially useful if you would like to blend two inputs, such as a piezo with a clip-on condenser mike. Plus it has gobs of features: besides a 5-band EQ, you get a notch filter, mute switch, 48V phantom power to the inputs, phase switch, and more. Built like a tank. It is powered by two 9V batteries or a wall wart (included). It does not run on phantom from the board or amp; the documentation says that phantom will not support all the features.
This model has been discontinued, so you won't find them in stores anymore. It was over $300 brand new, and its replacement, the EDB-2 is over $400. For less than the price of a new Para DI, you get what has been called “the Swiss Army Knife for the gigging musician.” A great deal at $185 plus shipping. Pmail me with ZIP/postal code for exact shipping cost.
