cheers guys. Just wondering what is the sort of ideal action (i know its subjective)? I shimmed my bridge with ice lolly stick and I can just slide in the wegen GJ pick under the low E on 12th fret.

There some really great breaks by Django from 2.17. Superb playing.

Hey T1m, that is a picking pattern using an open string (on the upstroke) sort of like what he used a lot at the end of his solo on Appel Direct. If you can figure out the pitches and let me know I'll tab it out for you or if not I'll take a look at it later and let you know. I think he is doing it on the 2nd and 3rd strings starting at the 11th fret on the second string, open second string, then 8th fret 3rd string...picking pattern is down up down down up (2nd string, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd)

Depends on how much buzzing you can tolerate. My action is about 2.8 mm, but I think I have too much neck relief so I get a little fret buzz. But some buzz is good.

Roughly speaking between 2.8-3.2 on high E string.

There's a lot of info that's been discussed about this, for example:

once you're on that search page you'll see "related searches" on the right and once you click on any link you can look at related discussions, also listed on the right.

That really helped me to crack the code of that. Thank you.

Thanks, I figured I wouldnt want to go any higher and the sound is beyond satisfying so ill stick to it. Trains my lefty quite a bit, haha. I only recently made a relevation that doing excercises to strengthen the (dontknow the name of it) muscle on top of my forearm makes a great difference in my technique. Ever since I started doing it, my technique finally became more fluent and relaxed. I dont tense up as easily. I think I finally get it. Tho Im still just beginning :) Oh by the way I only today got a bit concerned about the shims. As already said I cut the ice lolly stick to use it as shimming material and its 10x13 mms. Is it okay? Was just a bit worried if the surface is not too small.

I'm glad that helped you figure out the picking pattern.

The shims should be about the size as the footprint under each end of the bridge or bigger I would think. Not smaller than the bridge feet.
