I own both a Shopis AND an ALD. The Shopis is a custom built and so far one-of-a-kind D hole, the ALD is a La Brune oval. All I can say is I like them both, they are tonally quite different and each very appealing in its own way. I use the ALD as my primary stage guitar because it is easier to amplify an oval hole without issues. If I had to keep just one without regard to amplification issues, I would pick the Shopis. But such a decision is entirely subjective and depends on a combination of your ears, your taste, and the particular guitars you are trying out. Only you can decide for you.
