Looking Out My Back Door

Was practicing Gypsy Jazz rhythm on a dreadnaught and noticed the strumming sounded real similar to the Creedence Clearwater Revival song Looking Out My Back Door. I learned to play that song when it came out back in 1970 or so. Music is a seamless web.

The Beatles' "All Together Now" is pretty close to gypsy swing also!
  • The difference is in those songs the strum on the 1 and 3 are left to ring through and not muted and the attack is a bit different. Watch Denns Chang's DVD o. Rhythm or other similar DVD while listening very carefully and you will hear the difference.
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed

I attended a Beginning Gypsy Jazz Workshop in, I think, 2005 that was conducted by John Jorgensen . He went around the room and had each attendee play a "G" chord for 2 measures in Gypsy Jazz Style. I, who had no GJ experience, pictured the into to "All Together Now" and played it . John's response? "Perfect"!

Don't forget "Daydream" by the Lovin' Spoonful. :)
