Some great rhythm playing from Django here with Andre Ekyan - driving, swinging yet still very melodic. Eugene Vees rhythm behind Django's short solo is similarly swinging yet relatively straight and very much like Baro Ferret's approach on "I'll See You In My Dreams".

  • Quite a difference between The two styles. I think Django's rhythm playing is more of a conversation with the soloist than the others. His ear/brain/musical instincts are awe inspiring.

I really like the rhythm on You're driving me crazy, though I remember reading somewhere that once the initial pressings were issued Delauny et co were a bit disappointed that the balance was so far off; the guitars really overpower the violin at times, and it is intrusive as far as the fact that they didn't set up the studio seating as well as they should have for optimimal recording quality. I do agree with Jon as this is perfect in my ears as well, though those English guys on Coquette really have something special going too.

Here is an example of the string quintette rhythm guitarists playing an essentially straight four rhythm.
