Strap pegs

I just bought a Dupont Nomade and want to install pegs to put a strap on. Is it safe to just send a screw through this guitar any recommendations on strap pegs for this guitar?

Some will shudder at the thought, but I have done it on both my Gitane and Dupont with no problem. I removed tailpiece and widened appropriate screw hole, then fixed a typical strap button in its place. I tie off at headstock to avoid any more tampering. I'm mostly a singer so it's much easier to stand and sing, tho more difficult to play this kind of music doing so!
