I just tried Martin Retro Monel Strings on my 1948 Epiphone Zenith and I'm enjoying the sound they amplify great.

I bought the Bluegrass Tony Rice set...
Bluegrass .013 .016 .026 .034 .044 .056 184.9 MTR13

They make three other sets, any other Older Folks out there have any thoughts about trying them on G J guitar.
I remember using these as a kid.

The picture has the string gauge and tension. Anyone know of a tension chart on Salverez Strings

This is from D'Addario set, I don't know what's Argies but I suspect can't be too far off:

    Gauge Tension
    0.0100 in. 17.39 lbs
    0.0140 in. 19.13 lbs
    0.0230 in. 29.47 lbs
    0.0260 in. 23.34 lbs
    0.0340 in. 22.33 lbs
    0.0440 in. 20.03 lbs

    Totals to 131.69.

    And for 11s
    Gauge Tension
    0.0110 in. 21.04 lbs
    0.0150 in. 21.96 lbs
    0.0240 in. 32.77 lbs
    0.0290 in. 26.84 lbs
    0.0350 in. 23.67 lbs
    0.0450 in. 20.98 lb

    Which totals to 147.26

    And I got that from:

I found a few sets of Gibson Monel strings from the early 70's for my Gibson Johnny Smith guitar.
They sound good, found them on ebay 3 sets from some guy in Ohio for 12 bucks. The actual JS set with the nickel monel 3-5 and a .058 flat wound 6. Thats the set JS used.
Any way they sound great and work well with the magnetic pickup.
AFAIK monel = pure nickel wrap over a steel core.
So a similar string would be any pure nickel wrap string.
D'Addario makes a ton of them. Make sure its pure nickel not nickel plated.
They have a bit darker tone and a slightly greasier feel than the alloys used these days which are favored for their steel content which tends to make them brighter and louder when used with an electro mag PU.
The plain strings BTW will just be plated steel.
