I just tried Martin Retro Monel Strings on my 1948 Epiphone Zenith and I'm enjoying the sound they amplify great.
I bought the Bluegrass Tony Rice set...

They make three other sets, any other Older Folks out there have any thoughts about trying them on G J guitar.
I remember using these as a kid.

Any other info on Monel strings would be appreciated.
They sound good, found them on ebay 3 sets from some guy in Ohio for 12 bucks. The actual JS set with the nickel monel 3-5 and a .058 flat wound 6. Thats the set JS used.
Any way they sound great and work well with the magnetic pickup.
AFAIK monel = pure nickel wrap over a steel core.
So a similar string would be any pure nickel wrap string.
D'Addario makes a ton of them. Make sure its pure nickel not nickel plated.
They have a bit darker tone and a slightly greasier feel than the alloys used these days which are favored for their steel content which tends to make them brighter and louder when used with an electro mag PU.
The plain strings BTW will just be plated steel.
