Django certainly would agree with you. Other than the original quintette stuff most of what he recorded had horns in it. My fave is the All Star Sessions stuff he did with Rex Stewart (who IMO is kinda a Pops clone) and Barney Bigard. He did some great work with Benny Carter (sax and arranger) and Hawk.
As a sax player I have become quite accustomed to the rejection from some quarters in the GJ world . Good bunch at heart though, just a bit aural/colour blind. Ooops, did I really write that LOL

Gotta add Laura to the list. I generally prefer a non-affected pure sound. So she is my favorite without any personal bias. If you can tell from the video she won't be doing a lot of shows for the next few years.
Almost forgot another one of the great GJ singers - MAGGIE from Harmonious Wail. I know she has the same philosophy where she sings with her natural voice as much as possible and she is great! Not so much GJ in this song but we know of course they do more straight up GJ as well.
