Longest lasting strings

  • What we need is to get someone who has that problem to grab hold of a piece of lab quality Ph paper running between 5 and 9 or some such and check their sweat. I never checked mine but a few years ago, when I had a cancer scare my Ph range was high 5's to low 6's. I still have to be careful what I eat and I drink alkaline water most days to keep in normal. I think if persperation was in the high 5 range it would do a pretty good job on strings.

I have considered the galvanic cell idea as well. In so far as the frets were a copper alloy and do oxidize , it didn't seem to be such a wild stretch.

Not far-fetched at all (electrolytic action between copper & silver)

Also, there is a pill you can give your dog to change the pH of its urine so it doesn't kill your grass - maybe that would help.
  • Alkaline water = 1/2 tsp baking soda in a glass of H2O

I have the ultimate answer to this question - The strings that last the longest ARE.......... The low E string, The A string, and the B string !

  • G strings are the ones that usually get removed first.

Yeah my G's die within 2 or 3 days if I play a lot on them.

This is very unscientific but years ago I used to go thru the G strings really fast with Argies. I tried all kinds of other strings but stuck with the Argies and just bought extra 3rd strings.

A couple years ago I had a kidney stone and now I drink a LOT of water per instructions from my doctor.

Now my Argies last a LONG time. Just sayin'.

Note that I also try to use a very light touch since I injured my left hand so take this with a grain of salt, but.....

Yeah I think it's the light touch. I have very dry skin and I don't sweat much so my strings should last. I find pressing harder improves your tone so I press pretty firmly, and my G's go dead fast.
