There's a Jewish film festival running in western Massachusetts right now, and one of the titles looks kind of interesting...has anyone seen it? He also did The Last Klezmer, which is worth a look if you haven't seen it.

Man From Munkacs: Gypsy Klezmer
2005 | 60 min

This new film by Yale Strom, a renowned ethnographer-artist of Klezmer, examines how the persecuted group, the Rom, saved Jewish folk music until it could be returned to the Jews, allowing the rebirth of Jewish music in Hungary. The film chronicles the symbiotic relationship between the Rom and Jews who lived together in the Carpathian region before and after WWII. Prior to the Holocaust, the Klezmer musicians at Jewish celebrations were frequently not Jews but Rom, some of whom spoke Yiddish fluently. Initially, Strom’s work focused primarily on the use and performance of Klezmer music between these two groups. Gradually, his focus increased to examining all aspects of their culture, from post-World War II to the present.
