question about frets

Hi everyone,

I have a question.

I have this selmer copy gypsy guitar which I have been playing about 2 years but the frets are wearing out. I am having a new guitar made and I was wondering if any of you could recommend a brand of frets which will last longer. The brand on my current guitar (which are becoming in pretty bad shape) are Dunlop.

I hope you guys can help me :)

Thanks!

    Stainless steel
I've never had any of the long lasting types. Stainless is consistently described as the longest lasting, and the most difficult to install. You'll probably get a more experienced response though. There is also some middle of the road fretwires between standard and stainless.

The Jescar EVO 10447 works very well for Dupont guitars. Lasts forever, not really any more difficult to install than any other standard wire . Its more expensive so I up charge for the material. Standard wire costs around 3 bucks EVO comes in at about 12 retail. No big deal. I've used it for dozens of refrets in the last 3 years. No problems no returns no grinds and polishes , doesn't wear strings prematurely , in short, its great !

I strongly second the comment on the EVO frets. I've been using the gold wire EVO frets that I get from Luthiers Mercantile. It is no more difficult to install than standard fretwire and wears significantly longer. I have an instrument I made back in '09. I play it almost every day and it shows no fretwear tha I can see. Worth every penny of extra cost!

+1 on the Gold EVOs. There about halfway between the standard nickel and stainless in terms of hardness.
