I wonder if it is like NYer's who move out of NY and can't find any good pizza, even if everyone else likes the pizza where the NYer is now located. BTW Santa Barbara does not have any real pizza.
@Scoredog Craig, sounds like something "@NylonDave" might have written. RIP Nylon Dave, didn't own a plectrum, occasionally offensive, but somehow the forum seemed more interesting with him around.

Yeah some of his comments sounded pretty offensive but as I read more from him I don't think he ever meant to offend for the sake of it.

I'd like to hear an example of this phrasing differences, it would be fun to see it laid out on the guitar.
This may not be what you found but occasionally I'll learn a phrase by someone else, come up with a fingering that I thought made the most sense only to realize way down the road how much more economical it can be and how I made too hard for me.
Could be that Gypsy guys we listen to came up with their phrasing inspired by other traditional instruments which made it not completely at home on the guitar.
My guess, in posting this, was the "newer" players who have some knowledge of scales and fingering patterns would probably generate licks that incorporate these patterns, and thus be "easier" for someone like me (whose fingers also know those basic patterns) to pick up.
I know what you mean, makes perfect sense. Although sometimes the new guys are bebop inspired and take their ideas from wind players and those can fall very awkwardly on a guitar fretboard.
I'd love it if you had a few examples from the stuff you've been working on.
Django's phrasing for jazz pieces sound to me a lot like a European gypsy Imitating horn lines. To me that is what makes it so special. I just love the artistry in that fusion of two cultures.
