el Dregni and renowned guitarist John Jorgenson will give a special presentation at Djangofest LA on Feb 25 at 6 p.m. in the Forum Theatre.
The event, entitled Django: The Life and Times of a Gypsy Legend, will last about an hour during which time the Dregni/Jorgenson duo will combine stories, readings, and music to create a revue of Django Reinhardt's life and legacy.
Dregni is the author of the New York Times bestseller Django: The Life & Music of a Gypsy Legend, published in November 2004 by Oxford University Press.
The result of seven years of research and writing in France, Great Britain, Italy, and the USA, this is the first critical biography of Django Reinhardt, based on interviews, and correspondence with Django's first and second families, fellow Gypsy and gadjé musicians, Hot Club de France founders, and record-label engineers. Dregni is a writer for Vintage Guitar magazine as well as other publications.
Tickets are $12. There will be a reception and book signing immediately following the presentation.
Also a reminder, The world famous Beryl Davis, one of the last surviving artists who recorded and played with Django, will be performing vocal numbers with Joregenson on Sunday evening. It should be a spectacular event.
