Somebody knows someone here who is involved with this...and it ain't me...

Since most people here don't do a bunch of TV work it probably does not affect them. The solo at the end of the video was probably copped by the keyboard player after the guy they sampled played in the solo...just too idiomatic to the genre for a keyboard player to know this stuff. I can think listening to the solo we might be able to figure out who they sampled and I have my suspects. One thing is the rhythm stuff sounds great and could be used if one was not a good rhythm player.
1.So the bad-a keyboard player replaces a guitarist though I doubt w/o a lot of research he can improv in the idiomatic language.
2.The good-it makes people more aware of the genre.
All the sampled libraries for orchestra did among many things these 2 items.
1. A lot of orchestras got replaced by one guy like myself in a room.
2. A bunch of Epic music was created by a guys in a room with samples and a bunch of listeners who would have never listened to orchestras started going to concerts though often Gamed themed concerts but still...its orchestral music played by real orchestras.

BTW -- According to their forum posts, the artist they sampled was Vasilis Kotsias, the same guy playing in the video.
I'll definitely check this out if it's not too expensive.
They first sampled the guy recording a lot of articulations (staccs, long notes etc)
Shot a real video of him playing...then learned his playing on the keyboard with the samples, and then replaced the original audio with the keyboard performance. Lot's of sampled solo libraries use this technique. Actual execution of creating from the keyboard can take a long time to get it right and you can hear things that are just not right but in general few people can tell the difference.

P.S What threw me off the most is the room sound. But then everything else too; the dynamics, the fret noise... Amazing, didn't have a clue such a thing existed.

Reminds me of something @emmet ray (or @Emmett Ray or @EmmettRay ...) showed recently with using band in a box. You could generate a solo over a sheet of changes in Jorgenson style or Gonzalo style. The soundbank literally used licks from those players, so it did actually sound in their style. The generated solos sounded decent, although some continuity and "bigger picture" was missing
Just for clarification synthetic refers to synths, these are created with samples (multiple bits recorded of a persons playing mapped to a keyboard which triggers the sounds).
