Hi friends,

I just heard that Sebastian Giniaux was just robbed in an airport and has had to cancel several gigs. I don't know how bad the "damage" was, but I know he's not a rich man, so if anyone knows if he has been dramatically impacted by this in terms of gear/money lost etc, it would be great to know. To that end, I'm wondering if we can find a way to support him if he needs it? Like if there is a fund we can contribute to that will find it's way to him.
Who knows, maybe everything's fine and his losses were minor, but if not...

  • We could always help with a crowdfunding campaign if in fact this happened. Would need someone who knows how to set one up to get that organized

It looks like a bag snatch at the airport, and because his passport went with it he could not fly. He had dates arranged here in Australia so many folks 'down under' are disappointed but lets hope that is all it was and there was no personal injury. Unless we hear otherwise I don't think there will be any need for fundraising, but missed dates must hurt, and when he can get his passport replaced it would be good to see him in Australia at another time.

Wasn't it possible to have an emergency passport issued? I've heard of people turning up at the airport for their holiday discovering that they have forgotten their passports and getting emergency ones. Anyway, sad for all involved.

What is an 'emergency passport'? I doubt such a thing is available for travel outside of Europe. It used to be, that even a driving licence was enough within European borders but now, in these times of necessary tight security, I doubt there would be any short cuts to replacing a full passport for international travel.

A temporary passport can be issued at the largest airports and a few other places in Sweden. It's only good if the country you're travelling to accepts them. I don't know how it works in other countries. I just assumed it would be similar. I hope he is alright and that the audiences in Australia get another chance to hear him in the soon future.

If you are a citizen of a EU country a national ID card is, in most cases, enough to travel between countries, those that belong to the Schengen area. Swedish driving licenses don't work though, because they don't show the nationality of the holder.
