I love that part! I'd love to try and play it live, but I'd be too afraid to muck it up (even the original record has a flub). Too funny though - "Uh-Uh" get's me every time.
Mark Campiglia, our violinist, sings this, along with a bunch of other semi-obscure off-beat songs. He's heavily influenced by Stuff Smith, Ukulele Ike[!], Joe Venuti and and Jim Beam, [and not necessarily in that order]!
Seriously, although I roll my eyes at times, [and grin on stage], when he scats Ukulele Ike styles at a gig, it really goes over very well, and in general, having vocals
makes the music more entertaining. We had Phyllis Chapell sing
with us last Sunday at our gig with Jorgenson in Philly on Sunday.
It really kicked it up to a whole new level, hearing here do
"J'attendrai" and also "Nuages," with the "It's the Bluest kind of Blue"
lyrics, which were I be live also recorded by Peggy Lee.
We did the 1st 8 bars with just me playing chords and her singing,
the rest of the band came in at the b7 going to the emi, and it was
really amazing, you could really feel the audience right there with us,
it was somethin' else.
cheers,
Barr

Often I'll cut cut the top note of each chord to make it more even.

I have to work this tune up for a gig next week. How would you folks finger the D7/C chord?

A prolific line in this song..."now its the phrase that rocks the nation".
Great version on swing de paris.
