Info about Django's Hungaria?

Does anyone know the history or story behind "Hungaria?" My band is mostly vocal oriented, tho we do some instrumentals, so I sometimes write lyrics to songs without them. It would be helpful to know anything about the writing of the song.

Thanks!

Not much info available about the tune in the usual books. It is credited to Django and Stephane as a duo as most of the tunes of that time, there was not much written composition probably just a melody and a head arrangement.
It was recorded in Paris in march 1939 with Joseph, Baro and Soudieux as a rhythm section. Another recording of the tune was done with Ekyan as a soloist in 1941.

Regarding the title, it has always been a mystery to me. I dont feel any hungarian feel in that tune.
  • Agree with the mystery of the title. Really is more melodically reminiscent of “Bye Bye Blues.”
