Can anyone offer me some advise on playing a bolero rhythm?

One thing that people overlook on this rhythm is that most of the downstrokes on beats one and three are actually bass notes. So you're actually playing a root/fifth bass line. Most people just strum the bass strings...but the trad. way to do it is to actually hit a distinct bass note. Listen to Django and Lousson on Troublant Bolero.
