Just remembered the name of the chanson the lick I mentioned may have been lifted from, it was La Petite Tonkinoise and it was likely Joséphine Baker version I was thinking of (not Carmen Miranda). Thanks to Mitch Mercier for the reminder.
Very good advice ! Are you writing those licks down, so you have your own little lick library or do you remember all those licks by heart ?
I don't write them down, but I do keep a little collection of videos for that instead. If there's one I picked up or worked out or just accidentally invented that seemed cool, I'll record a short little vid on iphone and tag it to the collection.
I do this exact same thing as well! The other day I was cleaning out my phone and I found a treasure trove of licks that I had come up with. At the time I thought were keepers. They weren’t.lol
