MJS Godefroy Maruejouls For Sale (Ebay Listing)

flipflip
I'm selling my MJS Godefroy Maruejouls guitar, best guitar I've ever owned so reluctant sale.
Solid European spruce top with traditional pliage, solid Spanish cypress back and sides. Five part mahogany and ebony neck, bound rosewood fingerboard. Traditional French polish top, nitro everywhere else. German made Rubner tuners, MJS brass tailpiece.
Minor marks in the finish, normal playing wear, one ding in the top, all cosmetic, no cracks. Tuner hole each side is partially visible (see photo), you can barely see it but I'm trying to mention everything! Traditional Selmer style flat fingerboard radius. Frets are great.
Plays and sounds fantastic, very, very loud and resonant, no problems hearing it in a jam.
Comes with original Hiscox case.
With this spec the guitar would be over £3200 at current prices.
Hope it goes to a good home.

No affiliation with the seller. Just a note to say that Godefroy's guitars are fantastic, beautifully made, and rarely available (he seems to be mostly making electric guitars and flattops these days).

Does anyone else out there have a guitar with Cypress back and sides?
I think this is the first one I've come across. Can anyone give me the pros and cons? Cheers

I believe Cypress is a common back and sides wood for flamenco guitars but unusual for a gypsy guitar. I imagine it would give a snappy, bright, percussive nature - but I could be talking nonsense there.

I have used cypres on a few guitars, oval hole and f-hole. Works realy good, all the guitars sound loud and bright. I don't use this wood a lot because it's more difficult to sell, like all unusual woods. But guitarists must get used to having other woods than rosewood for guitar bodies, as it is more restricted now with CITES. Cypress is a very good alternative. I know Godefroy personnaly, he is a very skilled luthier, no doubt this is a great guitar

I bought the guitar and I think £1121 was a bargain price. I sat and watched the time run down and was surprised that nobody tried to sneak a higher bid in at the last minute. Of course there is always a chance that it will turn out not to be as good as I hoped but I think it's worth the risk given all the positive comments on here about the maker.

That is an absolute steal for a Godefroy Maruejouls instrument.

I was supposed to watch the end of the auction, expecting the same CrookedPinky, but forgot. Just out of interest, is it wise to have it sent or would you pick it up, given the estimated value of the instrument? (A 500 mile round trip is a lot, mind, maybe not to North American viewers though...)
