Day of Django 2019 - with Stochelo Rosenberg, Paulus Schaefer, Alyn Shipton, Giacomo Smith and more!
The second annual Day of Django is happening this week on 7th June at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK. Most events are free, with tickets for Stochelo and Paulus reasonably priced at £12.50 plus fees (£8 concession). Join us for a day of music, talks and jams with some of the best musicians in the world.

Jeremiah Spillane (Goldsmiths), ‘Codifying Jazz Manouche: A Brief History and Definition of Jazz Manouche in Relation to the Belgian and Dutch Manouche Community’
Tom Sykes (Liverpool College), Matt Holborn (Latchepen) and Lawrence Woof (Edge Hill), ‘The Jazz Violin’
4.15-5 Alyn Shipton (BBC Radio 3), ‘Django’s People’
Shipton explores the rich manouche gipsy guitar tradition, drawing on his oral history research with a wide range of musicians including Fapy Laftertin, Vivi and Tcha Limberger, Christian Escoudé, Dorado Schmidt, members of the Ferré family and Bireli Lagrene. Tracing the roots of the style back to Eastern Europe, he also explores the survival of an itinerant people and relates this to themes in Etienne Comar’s 2017 film Django.
