On behalf of our friend Francois Ravez, I share this page that most of you know
. It is from Jean Sablon autobiography. He describes two phone calls from Django when he was in NYC. The first one about a painting (Django is frustrated that he cant get the folds of the bed sheets correctly depicted) and one about the concert. Sablon said that Django overslept (not clear if the alarm didn’t work or if Django didn’t hear it) and asked Sablon to fix the situation with Duke for him
And Francois adds that in another part of the book, it is said that anotger time Django was so drunk he couldn’t wake up to see Ekyan (orSablon). Could we suppose that the same thing happened in NYC ?
Is it possible that he was also jet lagged, does Spatzo know when exactly he arrived from France?
Best
François
I dontthink he was jetlagged anymore since he hadbeen inUS for a while, touring with theDuke
You are right he set foot in the US on Oct 29 according to Michael Dregni, nearly one month before the concert.
François
Wonderful Spatzo, thanks for sharing. Been waiting years to hear this. It's established then that the recordings are from Nov 24 and not Nov 23? Guessing it is the 24th judging by the untuned guitar but he plays beautifully on Improv #2!
yes according to Loren it was labelled november 24th
