Greetings-
I am a full time professional musician working in Upstate NY for the last 25 years. I play different kinds of jazz, swing, latin and pop.
For the past 18 months I have been playing an f-hole archtop "Charlie Christian Model" jazz guitar with slotted peg head made by Rodrigo Shopis of New York City (
http://www.rodrigoshopis.com ).
Rodrigo Shopis makes Django-style guitars, archtops, and nylon string guitars.
I honestly feel that owning and playing this instrument has been one of the most significant events of my life. The guitar is what I call a "dual retro tribute model"... the headstock is slotted and resembles a Selmer/Macafferi, while the single P-90 pickup has been customized to look just like the Charlie Christian Gibson electric.
I knew right away that the guitar was much better than I was. It has been an extremely worthwhile struggle, trying to bring my own technique up to the level of this instrument. It's a struggle I expect to be engaged in for a long, long time.
Rodrigo Shopis is a master builder, an artist. Check out his website -
