Building a gypsy guitar

My DM1 is  1 3/4" at the nut and tapers out to 2 1/4" at the 14th fret.  That's a 1/2" taper.  I find that rather wide for me especially with the thicker neck.  Oh well, I'll see what I can build.

Psychebilly, I tried to type in my email address and it kicks it back to me.  I'm doing this at work, perhaps that's why.

Maybe it tapers so much because they didn't adjust the body dimensions at the cutaway in accordance with the slimmer nut width?? But maybe that's how the original Selmacs were???

My Gallato which I think is supposed to have dimensions taken off a Selmer measures 1-25/32+ at the nut and 2-1/4 at the 14th fret so maybe they do have a pretty wide taper on the originals. Reshaping the neck profile won't do anything about that issue though obviously.

My BYO is 1-3/4 and 2-1/8 which is pretty standard from my experience and much more comfortable. That means that the body width at the cutaway needs to be 1/16" narrower or the fingerboard won't line up with the edge of the cutaway.
