The only player I've seen up close that has a truly 100% floating hand all the time is Sebastien Giniaux. Players like Gonzalo rest their hand on the strings (I never asked him directly, that's what my impression was) and when playing up high it's lightly touching the top. Like Dennis said, do what you choose. Whatever helps you be a better player or get a better tone. And like Chris said, bear hugging the guitar will rob it of it's volume but having having the guitar body away from you and not having your whole arm in contact with the top, fingers just resting or touching lightly, not a big deal.
