former winners since the prize's inception in 1954 are listed here, I've no idea how many "jazz manouche" players are in the list, or have been in contention over the years - perhaps not very many.

Christian Escoude is the only Django-style guitarist I recognise on the list - but it’s good that Django is being celebrated as a significant figure in jazz and French music. His name should be associated with innovation.

If we aren't limiting it strictly to guitar, there is Roger GUERIN who played with Django in the later years. And Richard GALLIANO has musette roots and played with Bireli over the years including on Gypsy Project.
