EBAY mid 90's Gitane D500 $$$ Project
Very early 1st revision SN 004. Two cracks in top not cleated, shim under ORIGINAL bridge on treble side indicating top sinking more on that side. Looks WAY overpriced and a money pit! China traditional music has 16 notes in octave so how could a non-jig hand made bridge have intonation? My SN 008 didn't and was bad at 5th fret beyond so a great Josh Hegg new bridge was perfect on entire length of fretboard. Buyer Beware! Rocky

Could you post a link to the EBay listing?
On EBAY.com search Gitane D500
Only two listings.
Why would anyone buy a D500 with issues? They aren't great to begin with. Too wet for leads. I guess if it was real cheap and you could DIY it for a rhythm box.
Wow, someone else is trying to sell (a new?) D500 for $1295???
"...awesome Gitane ...guitar!"
"Playability is awesome."
"Awesome extended range on the high fretboard!"
"...some cosmetic flaws." <sees cracks on soundboard and fretboard>
The upside: you save on the relic job.
I think the $1200 one is a listing pulled from the UK site - Gitanes have always been more expensive over here. At one point it was cheaper to buy on djangobooks and have them shipped over than it was to buy them retail.
The seller closed the listing after being exposed for a very deceptive ad. Guess he'll have to sell his "Djengo" jazz guitar down the road!
And then there's this one. Listed as 'poss Dupont'. Yeah, right.
There's another one which crops up from time to time which is nothing more than a Chinese factory built effort which is accompanied by a pile of nonsense about it's origins. The seller claims it's based on a Selmer Maccaferri Royal Grand Atherton - whatever the hell that's supposed to be !
