Best nut (or zero fret) width for long-scale

Anyone have a preference as between 1 11/16" (43.5mm) vs. 1 3/4" (44.5mm)? (Obviously, neck shape influences the feel too.)

Give me a few hours with either and it's all good. I need to check what I have but it's definitely on a wider side. And that's what I prefer but it's more of a habit really.

In my limited experience I think they tend to be 1-3/4" or wider. But it's really personal preference if you are building a custom instrument for yourself or a client.

I assume you are talking next width at the nut.

1-3/4" here. But a lot of "modern" builders do them narrower. Just yesterday I played a new CB and it was fairly narrow, didn't ask what it is. And he says he tends to build them that way nowadays, more people prefer that.
