I recently got another guitar. An Altamira M. It was very plain which is one of the things that attracted me to it. The sound of it was ok, not great, so I decided to pimp it up. First off, change the machine heads. Second, swapped the tailpiece for one from China - these are made of a heavier metal than most - with a Stankivincus insert which matches the sides of the guitar. Then I installed a scratchplate in a similar wood. Then I took the big decision to cut a soundport in the upper bout. This increased the bass response and generally warmed up the sound. Finally I installed an ebony arm rest. Oh and I put a butterfly transfer on the upper bout. The thing between the tailpiece and the bridge is a thing I made to dampen sympathetic vibrations. Here are some pictures of before and after. Strange that the fact that it was a plain looking guitar which attracted me in the first place and now look at it !

Pimp my ride!
I love my Mod M. Super light, and the easiest to play gypsy guitar .
Do you happen to have a before and after sound byte? There appears to be a piece of metal on the lower bridge. Is that a jack for an added pick-up of some sort?
No, it's contraption I made up to dampen vibrations on the strings between the tailpiece and the bridge. The one in the picture is made from a brass bar with velcro on the back. A corresponding strip is also attached so that the velcro grips around the strings. Previous version have a piece of foam with slits to go over the strings. Does it work ? I think so.
Soundports rock man.
