I usually dislike bigtone pickups, but the best one I've used is from AJL. it is on his "la flasque guitar", so it's more of a solid-body construction, but it does sound quite usable.
I also really like the Carlos CS sensor on my DiMauro chorus. Maybe it's the bracing/f-hole design, but it seems to really work on this guitar. I probably use this setup the most, because it goes well between rhythm/lead. I tried Jokko's piezo, and could not get a good sound for the life of me.
My Dupont md50e has a schertler DYN-C in it, which I believe is actually made for cellos. It also sounds really good...a bit more natural than the Carlos CS, but slightly more "woofy". I think this is mainly the guitar though, leaning more towards the low end acoustically. It cleans up well with EQ though!
@Scoredog The best advice came from you recently. Even if you get an acoustic sound you can live with, In a noisy bar nothing cuts through as well as a magnetic pickup.
I have a big tone into a Baggs venue preamp into an AER. I also have a Peche into a Blues Junior. The latter wins for me.
since you already have a bridge for piezo element you could always try something like this, for the price it might do the trick. If you can get your old element out of that base

yup noisy bar, no choice...but if you have a concert or comfortable situation all other options exist.
